The Art of Becoming: How Layered Resin Mirrors Human Neuroplasticity and Growth

If you have ever stood in front of one of my multi-layered resin panels, you have likely noticed that your perspective changes depending on how the ambient light hits the surface. The deep, fluid forms seem to shift and move beneath the high-gloss finish.

This dynamic quality is completely intentional. For me, creating fine art is not merely an aesthetic pursuit — it is a deeply contemplative exploration of how we, as human beings, adapt, learn, and continuously rebuild ourselves.

The Physical Ritual of the Studio

Working with pigmented epoxy resin is a lesson in patience and surrender. I cannot pour everything at once. I must pour a single layer of fluid pigment, allow it to cure, and sit with it.

When I return to the panel the next day to pour the next layer, I am engaging in a studio ritual that perfectly mirrors the scientific concept of neuroplasticity.

Our brains are not fixed architectural structures. Every time we open our minds to a new experience, lean into a fresh perspective, or challenge ourselves to learn something entirely foreign, our neural pathways adapt. We add cognitive depth.

Reframing the Background

In resin art, a new layer doesn’t erase the old one. If you look closely past the glass-like topcoat, you can still see the distinct textures, shadows, and strokes of the initial foundations.

This is the beauty of our personal evolution. Our past experiences, old mindsets, and former seasons don't need to be completely hidden away to build a beautiful life. Instead, our new choices flow right over those scars, catching the light and transforming our history into a foundation of luminous depth.

We have the incredible, daily agency to wake up, choose curiosity over comfort, and consciously shape our next chapter.
